Portraits of a Seed
For this work, I bond my love of the land with my love of art. Knowing that the availability and existence of the vast majority of vegetable plant varieties have been lost to hybridization and genetic modification (possibly 96%), the focus of this piece is to honor the genesis to plant growth: The Seed. Georgia O’Keeffe once said, “When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else.”
This set of 45 paintings will be on display at the Asheville Area Arts Council the month of September. They are available as individual pieces (6″ x 6″), or in totality (5.5′ x 3′).
